Who says manifesto, says list of values or declaration of intentions.
So, if you want to know what values I put into practice in my work, you’re on the right page 😉.
Why work for a fairer internet?
For as long as I can remember I have been involved in initiatives related to “making a better world”. Human rights, feminism, social justice?
How could I be different in my work?
Well, that’s just it. One day you turn down your first project for ethical reasons and the next you find yourself writing a manifesto of values like this one.
Let’s get down to business. My development services are based on the following principles:
- Diversity
- Accesibility
- Sustainability
- Clean code
- Scability
- Efficiency
- Privacy
Diversity
I believe (very strongly) in the principles of equality, equity, integration and inclusion and that diversity makes us better. The latter I don’t believe, I know, because it is more than proven.
So I never work with projects that explicitly or implicitly exclude a group of people because they are a minority or “different”.
Long live differences, long live diversity. 🏳️🌈
Accessibility
Do you really want to reach everyone with your project? Then don’t leave out people with visual difficulties or abilities different from yours.
That’s why, when I develop a project, I always do it in such a way that anyone can access and consume its content, no matter what their abilities are.
The right to information is universal. ✊
Sustainability
Did you know that if the internet were a country, it would be the 3rd largest consumer of electricity in the world? Sustainability is a long-distance race and every contribution counts, in the online world too.
That’s why I always strive to reduce the carbon footprint of every project I work on as much as possible.
Because there is no Planet B. 🌱
Clean code
Your project website is like your home. The cleaner and tidier it is, the easier it is to keep it running smoothly and at its best.
That’s why I never install visual layouts when working with WordPress. Instead I use the native block editor and develop custom blocks.
The cleaner and more semantic the code, the better. 🧑💻
Scalability
The projects that work are the ones that allow themselves to improve every day, change what doesn’t work and try new strategies. Or do you think that your project can be exactly the same today as it will be in 5 years?
That’s why all my developments are designed to be scalable. So that they can grow, evolve and get where you expect them to be.
So that technology never limits you. 🚀
Efficiency
Why spend more resources than you really need? And we can be talking about invested money, system resources in hosting or functionalities in your website.
That’s why, before I get down to work, I study your case, I advise you and if I see that something of what you ask me is not useful, I tell you straight out.
Not one more resource to throw away. 😎
Privacy
Why should you have to tell your neighbour what you have for dinner every night or what your trouser size is? It’s called the right to privacy, and it should exist in everyday life as well as in the online world.
That’s why, in my projects, I always agree with whoever is in charge of marketing to ask only for the data that is really necessary.
And then it’s up to the users to decide whether to provide it or not. 👍
What next?
Well, if you’ve made it this far without falling asleep and you’d like me to develop or give you a hand in your online project using these 7 values, you’re already late in writing to me 😉.
